New song ‘Timmy and the Trip on the Train’
A few months ago, some folks I was working with asked me to send them my train song for a PBS special about trains. ”Of course,” I replied before realizing that I had never written a song about trains. Apparently everyone else has one??
I wrote this song literally while driving from my home on the west end of Richmond to the studio downtown. And I love it. I wish more songs came along that way. Sometimes the stories just tell themselves.
I had never written a song about my childhood. My uncle Timmy worked for the railroad. He taught me how to play guitar. He loved John Prine, Neil Young, and laughing. And I wish he could hear this song. Hope yall like it.
I’d love to know what you think of the song. Just leave a comment below and Ill get back to you.

Hi Dean! I’m LOVING this song. Indeed, what a pleasure to whip out something so good so quickly.
Fine work, my friend. Very fine work indeed!
“Corgi Arms Welcomes Dean Fields!” Thanks Matt!
We have come a long way since that day. I am so proud to call you my brother.
Ha…yes. One of 2 who can validate the story in the song! Playing cards and eating crackers on the trip to nowhere.
Still upset about the fritos that kid stole from me that day. Lol
Fantastic Dean. What a great way to start my day. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Ben!! Really glad you like it. Hope you have a good one.
thanks for that:) gave me chills! love you!
ANGELA!!! Love you too!!! Hope to see yall soon.
Sounds like a wonderful sing along on a road trip kind of song! Love it.
Thanks Tina! its a pretty short tune. So, you’d need lots more on your trip playlist.
Great Job Dean, Love the Guitar Pickin especially. Now you are a real legitimate song writer with your very own train song. When I was a boy growing up we lived just a few yards from the tracks so I know what you mean about the sound of the steel on the track.
Thanks Jim. I DO feel more legitimate…heh. Living close to the railroad is pretty amazing. We lived 4-5 houses away from it and it was pretty loud from time to time. Can’t imagine what it was like to be just yards away. See you soon.
Hi Dean! I’ve been an admirer of your work for several years now…ever since a friend of mine shared you with me in Raleigh, NC!

Ha. thanks. Lets make it happen!!
Love it. Heard you sing it live, so very happy to hear this again. New album coming? That is the best part of the news in this thread! Love the part about the crackers on the floor and, after all, there are people starving somewhere. Heard that one many times!
