dean_foucault_burlap

I haven’t played for the folks in Philly in too long.  And this time I’m supporting the immensely talented Jeffrey Foucault !  He has made some of the coolest folk rock americana albums you may have never heard.  Go get them now and come tap your foot with us. His new album, Jeffrey Foucault Horse Lattitudes probably could have used my ‘Under A Searchlight Moon‘ cover…no?  Seriously though, that album is great.  My favorite song from that album is ‘Passerines.’  But Im a sucker for pedal steel. If you love a song for the lyrics, you will love Jeffrey Foucault lyrics.
See you all there!

‘The Buzz About’ Album Review!

Mark Tucker from The Buzz About (Fueled by music. Driven by opinion) recently gave a glowing review of the new album and video!

What sold me on this gent was the video to “Forever Never Knowing”, the sophomore track to Under a Searchlight Sky, a very cool three-minute interplay of humor, surrealism, and urban experimentalism that would appeal to Magritte, Ingmar Bergman, and Mr. Rogers….

…My favorite track is the closer, “Could’ve Been” – which reminds of Dave Loggins’ “Please Come to Boston”, Richard Torrance’s moodier moments, the wistful side of Michael Tomlinson, and a windblown sky in late autumn with a lonely lover pining for time away from the distances of the real world – but every cut here is of a piece, marvelously crafted, lovingly rendered, and gently demanding attention.

Opening for Joseph Arthur!

Anyone near the DC area should come see my show with Joseph Arthur July 15th at Iota. He and I are both doing special solo acoustic sets. His new album, the graduation ceremony is really cool. More than likely, if you aren’t immediately familiar with his name you’ve probably heard Coldplay & Michael Stipe‘s cover of his song ‘In the Sun.’  Excited? Want to me to play a song that night? Leave a comment below.

Here’s the Coldplay/Michael Stipe version:

Common Folk Music: “Refreshing Refuge for the Ears”

Common Folk Music had great things to say about the new album:

“Dean Fields, a singer-songwriter from Richmond, Virginia, has recently released his latest EP Under a Searchlight Moon in March. An album of five well-written, thoughtful folk songs with a great pop sensibility, Fields spellbinds his listeners with his soft and sweet melodies.

From the opening “Tongue Like a Hammer,” Fields’ develops an airy ambiance and light melody that floats throughout the album. “Forever Never Knowing” is a catchy and memorable piece of folk-pop and the heartfelt piano ballad “Something’s Gotta Give” is flows and dances through the speakers. Fields’ vocals take on a pleasingly pensive tone while the steel guitar gently sighs in “Could’ve Been.”

Under a Searchlight Moon is a short album with a dulcet impact. Fields’ charming vocals and the album’s easy melodies create a refreshing refuge for the ears.”

Examiner Preview Show w/ Lori McKenna!

The Examiner mentioned me in their preview of Friday’s show with Lori McKenna:

Opening for Lori McKenna!

Totally stoked to be opening for Lori McKenna this Friday May 20th! (my dad’s birthday)  And at a very cool venue, the Avalon Theatre in Easton MD.  My first gig there was years ago supporting John Hiatt and it was an amazing show with a super supportive audience.  I can’t wait to get back there and open for LORI MCKENNA!  Those of you who know her already love her I’m sure.  Those that do not yet know her will remember her song that Faith Hill recorded ‘Stealing Kisses.’  One song from a really great catalog of music.  Seriously…Can’t wait.  Its gonna be awesome.

“Forever Never Knowing” is the equinely surreal video from Dean Fields, a Virginia singer/songwriter who released the fine five-song EP Under A Searchlight Moon in March. We think there might be a connection between the video and Fields’ recent marriage, but we have the good horse sense not to speculate…all we know is that nicely crafted, sweetly melodic “Forever” deserves a view or a listen (or two).
