"Hit Song" Out June 27!

HitSong Cover Art

I've been at it a long time. Long enough to know that a story about hermit crabs is no way to sell records.

So, once there were 2 hermit crabs: Hermie and Shermie.

And by "once there were" I mean "currently there are." They're crabbing around right now in a tank in our kid's bedroom.

I thought they'd be like the one i had as a kid: easy and brief.

See, when I got mine the summer after 2nd grade, we brought it home in a small plastic cage with some hermit crab food and a shell. And it croaked before school started.

But that was long before Google.

Turns out-  If you give them a big tank, control the temperature and humidity, and feed them anything but stuff labeled "hermit crab food" the buggy-looking shell-covered weirdos can really thrive and live for decades.

Oh and check this out...They're born in the water and have to decide immediately if they're going to live on land or in water.

If they choose water, they gotta stay in water forever or choke on air.

Choose land and they'll drown in water.

Ours are the "land or drown" variety.

So we're going about it differently this time. And so far so good.

Hermie can read palms. He just doesn't read aloud. So I haven't been able to benefit from a heads up. But every night when I tell him about my day he always looks at me like "yeah, I know."

Shermie, on the other hand writes and recites poetry (bless him. He's more  Dickie Emlinson than Emily Dickinson.)

Sometimes they just disappear, burying themselves in the sand for weeks or months on end.

Until one day they pop up with a fresh exoskeleton blabbing on about "hey! Remember me? Check out my new single!"

So what am I getting at here?

Am I trying to feed you some kind of meal worm of a metaphor?

(They love those by the way)

Am I the hermit crab?

Is songwriting like keeping a crab alive?

Did I start writing my new bio and remember I need to clean the tank?

The answers to these questions (and any other questions you may have) are all buried in my new batch of songs.

recorded in my shell of a spare bedroom, these buggy little weirdos are ready to be handed over to your care now.

The first one is called "Hit Song" and it comes out June 27.

Can't wait for you to hear it.
