My 3rd album, Everything Just Happened… turns 17 today!? The title track came from stepping in dog business. And the studio caught fire the night before we were supposed to start recording.
If the universe had a message for me I wasn’t listening. But I was listening to a ton of Bob Dylan. You can hear it in this solo performance of On Its Way to You.
This is Pretty Cool
- Speaking of Bob Dylan I recently interviewed Sean Wilentz, biographer and co-producer on Dylan’s new bootleg album. It was a fun conversation between 2 Dylan nerds. Read the article
- The bootleg album has tons of great stuff. I love the live version of Corrina, Corrina from Gerde’s Folk Club in 1962.
- My favorite version of Corrina, Corrina is by Mississippi John Hurt. (That voice!)
- But back to Dylan…I’ve never been a fan of the fade out on one on The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan. But this new live version has a big satisfying strummy ending.
- Long ago I got to talk to Johnny Marr who had zero interest in hearing my music but he was very interested in telling me how great he is at the fade out. For the record, I agree. The ending of The Smiths’ There Is a Light That Never Goes Out is perfect.
- Compare that to the hasty fade in the Johnny Marr-less Morrisey song Everyday is Like Sunday.
- I don’t know why the fade out isn’t really in fashion anymore. But Chappell Roan has a wonderful fade in Pink Pony Club. And how bout that wild slow down ending in Good Luck Babe!
- One last thing….I have The Answer!
