If you’re in a hurry check out “Spelling Bee!”
When was the last time someone read aloud to you “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?”
I recommend it.
Every night at bedtime this week, my wife crawled into the top bunk with the kiddo and read a chapter of Roald Dahl’s wonderful book.
I can’t wait until we finish it so we can watch the movie.
I like the older one from the 70s.
My wife prefers the more recent one. Says it “looks better.” (Contains Johnny Depp)
That one does have Fiona Apple’s version of “Pure Imagination” which is fantastic.
So anyway. They read and I lay on the floor listening.
It’s a great way to wind down the day. Soaking up lines like Wonka’s snark to Veruca Salt’s mother:
“My dear old fish, go and boil your head.”
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about my younger years.
Because of this, of course.
But also from my recent Song Diving conversations with Ani Difranco, Billy Corgan, and Jim Croce’s son – 3 songwriters who may not overlap much except that they all had profound impacts on my creative upbringing.
Here’s me dusting off a little of the Smashing Pumpkins’ song “Cherub Rock.”
And here’s a song I wrote about getting last place in the Spelling Bee!
Thanks for reading and listening.
